How FightWise works

The concepts, in the order they depend on each other. Start at the top; each page links to the ones it leans on.

  1. 1The Focus ladderStyle, Strategy and Tactics are three tiers that depend on each other in order. This page is the map.
  2. 2Style — a fighter's habits, observedThe Style is a description of what a fighter tends to do, situation by situation. It is the base every other decision is measured against.
  3. 3The eight situationsA fight moves through eight recognisable places. The Style, Strategy and Tactics are all described in terms of them.
  4. 4The four questions and their answersEvery situation asks the same four things. The answers on offer are different in each one, because a guard at range and a grip in the clinch are not the same question in disguise.
  5. 5The story readoutAny combination of intents describes a fighter. The app says who that fighter is, in one line, and reads the route back in words.
  6. 6Coach and fighter — two views, one fighterThe coach writes what they observe. The fighter can write what they believe. Where the two differ is where the useful conversation is.
  7. 7Strategy — this fight, relative to the styleA strategy is how this particular fight is won. It is written against the Style and against the opponent, and it always says when it applies and for how long.
  8. 8Tactics — tools at a rateA tactic is a named tool used how often. Strategy wins the fight; tactics win moments.
  9. 9Cards — words wired to workA gameplan card is a moment made portable: a scene, a body part, the coach's why, and the work to do. Every tier of the Focus section ends at its cards.
